Renowned Malawian musician Patience Namadingo (Dr. Namadingo) has launched a compassionate initiative to support thousands of Malawians affected by anti-immigrant tensions and violence in South Africa. The gospel/Afropop star is targeting 1 billion kwacha for repatriation, transport, and welfare assistance.
Deeply moved, Namadingo posted: “My heart is very heavy, thinking of the Malawians stranded in South Africa. There must be something I can do. Something I will do.” He has since visited affected communities in Durban, including temporary shelters at the old Drive-In site.
This comes as Malawi’s government estimates up to 10,000 citizens need help and has launched a broader appeal for donations amid the crisis.
Namadingo, known for past philanthropy like raising funds for children’s cancer care, started the drive with a K2 million personal donation and is ensuring full transparency for public tracking. Funds will support coordinated humanitarian efforts.
The campaign reflects Namadingo’s commitment to using his influence for unity and aid. Contributions are welcome via https://fundmalawi.uk.nf/
