Manchester United got back to winning ways with a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at a rainy Old Trafford. After losing their first league game 2-0 to Hull City, manager Michael Carrick changed the starting lineup four times, including giving Marcus Rashford his first start for the club in nearly two years.
Ipswich shocked the home crowd in the 24th minute when Abdul Fatawu beat Luke Shaw and crossed for Leif Davis, who side footed a high shot into the net. United levelled just before half time when Ipswich’s Marcelino Núñez slipped, Matheus Cunha took the ball and set up Bruno Fernandes, who scored calmly.
The second half, played in heavy rain, saw United take control. A shot by Harry Maguire looked to have hit his hand before it deflected off Jacob Greaves into the net; the goal stood after a VAR review. Fernandes then drove the comeback, scoring a penalty to make it 3-1 and adding a close range goal seven minutes later for his hat trick. Late on, Fernandes chipped a pass to Bryan Mbeumo, who finished to make it 5-1.
Ipswich grabbed a stoppage time goal through Chuba Akpom, but the match finished 5-2 to United, giving them their first three points of the Premier League season.
