Lulu Marks 25 Years with “The Legacy Concert” at BICC
Lawrence Khwisa, better known as Lulu, is set to celebrate a quarter-century in music with a landmark show on 29 August 2026 at the BICC Auditorium in Lilongwe. Titled “Lulu@25 The Legacy Concert,” the night is presented under Mathumela Music Company and has already drawn strong support from fellow artists and fans.
The event will see Lulu share the stage with Namadingo, Lawi and Eli Njuchi, alongside three up-and-coming artists chosen through a public remake challenge. In the contest, young musicians reworked some of Lulu’s older songs, with the winners earning the chance to perform those tracks live with the veteran.
Lulu rose in the early 2000s as one of Malawi’s leading R&B voices. After starting with the duo Ma Love and later joining Lucius Banda’s Zembani Band as a guitarist, he formed his own Mathumela Band. Hits such as “Magwiragwira,” “Mbambande,” “Mwachenjera Darling” and many others established him as a consistent presence known for smooth vocals, strong songwriting and skilled guitar work.
Gwamba and other industry voices have already described the concert as a sold-out celebration of legacy. Tickets are available on Ulizinga.com, with standard entry at MK50,000 and VIP at MK100,000.
For an artist who has remained active for 25 years, the night at BICC is both a look back at a career built on originality and patience, and a platform for the next generation. Fans can expect a mix of classic material, collaborations and the fresh energy of the contest winners as Lulu marks one of the longer continuous runs in modern Malawian music.
