The Chawinga sisters, Tabitha and Temwa, made football history by inspiring Malawi to a stunning 3-2 victory over ten time champions Nigeria in Morocco. The two world class forwards scored all three goals for Malawi, tearing apart the Nigerian defence in a dramatic second half.
Temwa Chawinga opened the scoring in the 69th minute to record Malawi's first ever goal at the tournament. Just five minutes later, her older sister Tabitha doubled the lead with a clever finish. Temwa then sealed the historic win with a brilliant counter-attack goal deep into injury time, making late goals from Nigeria's Rasheedat Ajibade and Uchenna Kanu useless.
By scoring in the same match, Tabitha and Temwa became the first siblings ever to score together in a Women's Africa Cup of Nations game. This genuine victory was a massive shock, as Nigeria had never lost a tournament match to a debutant team before. Malawi now sit second in Group C and are in a fantastic position to reach the quarter-finals.
