Residents Under T/A Mwamlowe Renew Calls for Upgrading of Chiweta-Mlowe Road
Rumphi District residents under Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwamlowe have renewed calls for the government to upgrade the Chiweta–Mlowe Road, saying its poor condition continues to affect transport, business and access to healthcare. The residents say the deteriorating road makes it difficult for farmers to transport produce to markets while commuters and patients struggle to travel, especially during the rainy season. One of the motorcycle operators, Jacob Moyo say, "the road has also affected their livelihoods due to declining passenger numbers and frequent motorcycle breakdowns. These break downs force us to spend more on repairs. As a result, we make less money than before. When transport businesses struggle, local trade also slows down and that reduces development in our communities." Residents have appealed to the government to prioritize the upgrading of the Chiweta–Mlowe Road, arguing that improved infrastructure would boost business, improve access to essential services and accelerate socio-economic development under T/A Mwamlowe.
